Stainless Steel Mosaic
Marine Grade
Stainless steel is naturally corrosion resistant, however corrosion can still occur when the metal is exposed to especially harsh or aggressive surroundings, such as a salt water or marine environment. What gives stainless steel its resistant properties is the formation of a protective coating on the surface of the metal, protecting the base metal (and importantly the iron present) from exposure to moisture. The salt from sea water can attack this protective layer, though, leaving the base, iron rich metal exposed and prone to corrosion.
Stainless Steel Marine Grade Tiles
Marine grade stainless steel 316 has a relatively high concentration of molybdenum which helps to stop the salt water causing pitting or crevice corrosion. Marine grade resists ordinary corrosion in virtually all architectural applications, and is often chosen for more aggressive environments such as sea-front buildings and fittings on wharves and piers.
ALLOY recommends the mosaic tiles made of Marine Grade Stainless Steel 316 if the tiles are for pools, water features or exterior use in ocean environments. These solid metal mosaics that expertly combine functionality with an unsurpassed design are available in either Brushed or Mirror Polished finish.
Stainless Steel Marine Grade brushed mosaic tiles
For pools, water features and other outdoor uses where ALLOY tiles may be exposed to coastal environments or brackish water, we recommend the use of Marine grade stainless steel tiles. These tiles have a brushed finish that is sometimes referred to as Satin Finish or Number Four Finish (#4) stainless steel. This means that each tile has a visible ‘grain’: fine parallel lines that form the brushed finish, and help to create a unique but more low-key look than those with the mirror finish.
Stainless Steel Marine Grade mirror polished mosaic tiles
For pools, water features and other outdoor applications where ALLOY tiles may be exposed to coastal environments or brackish water, we advise using Marine grade stainless steel tiles. These mirror polished stainless steel or Number Eight finish (#8) polished tiles can really come into their own in combination with sparkling water.
The Advantages of Stainless Steel Marine Grade
Stainless Steel Marine Grade has all the advantages of normal Stainless Steel. In addition, it’s even more resistant to corrosion than Stainless Steel.
Stainless Steel Marine Grade is a metal alloy particularly suited to applications in ocean environments. Even seawater, salt or chlorine don’t cause damage.
Stainless Steel Marine Grade is a high-tech material with a bright, modern, clean look. Enjoy the 21st century with mosaics made of Stainless Steel Marine Grade.
