Titanium Mosaic

Titanium as an element occurs within a number of mineral deposits that are widely distributed in the earth, and is found in almost all living things, water, rocks, and soils. It was discovered in 1791 by the clergyman and amateur geologist, William Gregor, in Cornwall, Great Britain, and named after the Titans, earth giants in early Greek mythology. It’s a lustrous, silver-coloured metal with low density and high strength.

Titanium Tiles

The most useful properties of Titanium are a high strength-to-density ratio, and high resistance to fatigue, corrosion, cracking, and high temperatures. It’s also non-toxic. Its use in industrial production began after 1945. As it’s comparatively light, strong, and rust-free, it began to be applied in the aerospace, chemical, and electrical power industries, amongst others. Architects began using titanium in the 1970s, particularly in severely corrosive, coastal areas, where its high corrosion resistance made it an extremely interesting building material.

Titanium is the most versatile of the metals used by ALLOY to create their stunning mosaic tiles. It’s available in the variants ‘Smoke’, ‘Gold’ and ‘Amber’, which vary considerably in their appearance, from a cool ‘silver’ to a warm ‘gold’ to virtually black. Titanium Amber and Titanium Gold tiles have been developed to provide the striking sheen of copper and brass tiles without the eventual natural patina that occurs when these metals are exposed to the air and oxidise. Titanium Gold tiles in a mirror finish allow one of the most dramatic looks, as they create an extravagantly sparkling gold surface without the expense of gold-plating. Titanium Smoke – ALLOY’s latest addition – offers a unique, reflective, dark grey surface that doesn’t immediately resemble a metal.

ALLOY’s innovative Titanium-plated tiles provide a range of metal finishes that are unique, contemporary and resilient. They’re available in the following colours and finishes:

Titanium Amber – resembles copper – brushed and mirror finish
Titanium Gold – resembles brass or gold – brushed and mirror finish
Titanium Smoke – brushed and mirror finish
