Materials

The solid metal mosaic tiles produced by ALLOY are available in Titanium, Copper, Brass, and three different qualities or grades of Steel (Raw, Stainless, and Marine). Titanium and Stainless are in turn offered in different exquisite finishes (such as brushed or mirror polished), giving you maximum flexibility in realising your personal design ideas. Regardless of the actual material used, all the mosaic tiles are punched from a 1.6 mm sheet of the highest quality solid metal. These aren’t cheap imitations covered with just a thin metal foil or plating, but solid metal, without a backing mesh, plastic inserts or other non-metallic substances. This makes them extremely long-lasting and hardwearing, and means they don’t dent, crack or de-laminate.

Please note that as these are 100% natural materials, the finish of each metal tile is unique and may vary from one batch to another, just like natural stone or marble from a quarry.

Copper tiles

ALLOY Copper tiles and mosaics are punched from a single sheet of 1.6mm solid copper. Over time they will exhibit the beautiful oxidising hues for which copper is widely sought. The natural weathering of ALLOY copper tiles leads to a gradual change in the surface colour and the final patina depends on the environment in which the tiles have been installed. Salt, moisture, sunlight and orientation can affect the final unique colour. In general, copper changes in hue from a natural salmon through a progression of iridescent pinks, oranges and reds interspersed with brassy yellows, blues, greens and purples, russet browns, greys and finally to a blue-green or grey-green.

Titanium tiles

ALLOY’s innovative Titanium-plated tiles provide a range of metal finishes that are unique, contemporary and resilient. Titanium Amber and Titanium Gold tiles have been developed to provide the striking sheen of copper and brass tiles without the eventual natural patina that occurs when these metals oxidise. Mirror finished Titanium Gold tiles provide a substantial gold surface without the expense of gold-plating. Titanium Smoke – ALLOY’s latest addition – offers a unique, reflective deep grey surface.

Brass tiles

ALLOY Brass tiles and mosaics are a brilliant golden yellow tile that is punched from a single sheet of 1.6 mm brass, is hardwearing and long-lasting and can be used indoors and outdoors. Atmospheric exposure of the brass tiles can result in the development of a thin protective green patina which, in itself, becomes a striking feature. We also suggest using the ALLOY Titanium Gold tile for a lasting golden colour.

They are manufactured from mild steel using ALLOY’s specialised technique that embraces its inherent irregularities. As a result each solid metal tile can possesses a slightly varied tone – making every Raw Steel tile installation beautifully textured and truly unique. For designers seeking a unique exterior look that will slowly change over time, Raw Steel tiles, if exposed to the elements and un-sealed, will oxidize and slowly patina. For the unique burnt-orange patina of Corten, its use can be specified in any of ALLOY’s Raw Steel mosaic tile styles.
